Everest Base Camp begins with a short and scenic flight form Kathmandu to Lukla. Alternatively, we can begin it from Jiri or Shivalaya. From Jiri or Shivalaya, it is 5-6 days trekking to Namche.

TIMS Card
A Trekkers Information Management System or TIMS Card is mandatory for all treks including Everest Base Camp Trek. TIMS can be obtained from the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu. We can have our TIMS card within 20-30 minutes. For this, you require to fill up the form at Nepal Tourism Board. It is not an online form. Do not forget to bring 2 passport sized Photographs. TIMS Card costs USD 20 per individual.
Recent update: These days, we do not need TIMS Card from Nepal Tourism Board. We can buy a location card at Lukla which costs USD 20. Actually, Everest region is independently promoting Tourism in Everest region these days.
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
Without obtaining Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, trekkers are not allowed to enter into Sagarmatha National Park. Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit can be obtained in the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu, or alternatively, it also can be obtained at its office at Monjo. We get our national park entry permit at Monjo and trek to Namche. Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit costs equivalent to USD 34. You do not need to provide photograph for this permit.
Additional Permit for Jiri to EBC Trek
Some people love to start their Everest Base Camp Trek from Jiri or Shivalaya. Jiri to Everest Trek is the most classical trek in Everest region. Those who are planning to start their Everest Base Camp Trek from Jiri or Shivalaya, they have to obtain Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project permit. We suggest you to obtain this permit from Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu. It costs USD 20 in Kathmandu. We also can obtain this permit in Shivalaya which will cost double : USD 40. Remember to bring two passport sized photographs for this permit.
Diplomats are not charged for the card.
Guide and Porter
Hiring guide and porter is the most reliable way to make your Everest Base Camp Trekking. Your guide and porter help you significantly on the trail in many ways. We do not suggest anyone to trek independently.
We need pay USD 23- 30 per day per individual for porter and USD 25-50 per day per individual for guide. Hiring guide and porter from Lukla is cheaper if you are flying from Kathmandu to Lukla.
Transportation
When arrive at Kathmandu airport, you need a transfer to hotel. For this, we need to pay 700-1000 NPR. If you book Everest Base Camp Trekking through a trekking company, the company will include the cost of airport pick up and drop too. Or independently, we can hire the pre-paid taxi from Kathmandu airport to the hotel which costs 700 NPR.
Flight Ticket Cost Lukla
If we are flying from Kathmandu airport to Lukla airport, we need to buy the domestic flight ticket. It is 35 minutes scenic flight. One way flight per individual cost 181 USD for foreigners. For Indian nationals, it costs around 140 USD.
If we are taking a bus from Kathmandu to Jiri or Shivalaya, one bus ticket costs between 800-1200 Rs. But, we do not recommend using bus from Kathmandu to Jiri or Shuivalaya for Everest Trekking. Above 80% people use domestic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla for Everest Base Trekking.
Food and Accommodation
Breads and Nepali dishes are very popular item of meals during Everest Base Camp Trekking. Nepali Dal Bhat, Dumpling, Thukpa etc are the major item of food to be found on Everest Base Camp Trekking Trail. The lodges and guesthouses will provide you their menu and you have to make you choice what you want to have. One item of food costs between USD 2-10 USD. One beer will cost between 500-800 NPR.
The Everest Base Camp Trekking Accommodation will be very ordinary. We normally need to share the room and the bathrooms or toilets. No attached bathroom can be found on Everest Base Camp Trekking trail. However, we can get attached accommodation in Lukla and Namche. Toilets and bathrooms will outside. One room with two beds cost between 700-1000 NPR. Bring your own sleeping bag.
Personal Expenses
How prodigal are you? You may spend some money on shopping and drinking. We get some local products like pashmina shawl, Tibetan ornaments like rings and bracelets. These things will be the memento for you. Bring money according to how prodigal you are.
Tips for Guide and Porter
Offering tips to the guide and porter is the best way to end our Everest Base Camp Trekking. There is no specific boundary in which you have to tip. Normally, we suggest you to allocate USD 5-10 each day for your guide and porter.
The Everest Base Camp Trekking cost is normally between 950- 2000 USD per individual. This cost includes guide and porter, breakfast, accommodation, flight( two way) and airport pick up and drop.
